Cool Honey Bee Facts to Buzz About

*Bees have to visit flowers in order to make honey.

*Honey is their food.

*They collect a sugary juice called nectar from the blossom (of the flower) by sucking it out with their tongues. They store the nectar in what’s called their honey stomach, which is different from their food stomach.

*When they have a full load, they fly back to the hive.

*In order to produce 1 pound of honey, 2 million flowers must be visited.
*An average worker bee makes only about 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
*A bee’s brain is about the size of a sesame seed, yet it has remarkable capacity to learn and remember things and is able to make complex calculations on distance travelled
*Only worker bees sting, and they only sting if they feel threatened. They they die once they sting.
*The queen bee can live up to 5 years. Her role is to fill the hive with eggs.

Believe in Yourself

(Performed on Sesame Street)

(Partial lyrics)

“Oh you can be what you want to be,
See what you want to see,
Believe in yourself.”

“Go where you want to go,
Do what you want to do”

“Some folks try to tell you there are things you shouldn’t do
You’re not strong enough or smart enough at all,
But what seems right to them quite often
Might be wrong for you,
So be sure you try to climb”
